Book Review: Breastfeeding Matters, Maureen Minchin (No Comments)

Breastfeeding Matters, by Maureen Minchin is not a book designed to reassure mothers that formula feeding is “just as good” infact, it’s an informative, emotive, and factual book that outlines exactly why Breastfeeding Does Matter.

Upon reading the book, I realised that mothers who have failed at breastfeeding, were infact failed by the systems that are in place to support them. The hospitals, doctors, and social systems in place are in dire need of a review to provide accurate and supportive information to breastfeeding mothers.

Minchin outlines the ethical indiscretions that formula companies can get away with, and how they are often advocated and supported by the government and doctors - even in an unconcious way.

How is it that formula vs breastfeeding became such a light hearted and un-researched choice for many mothers.

If you wanted to breastfeed, wanted to support other women breastfeeding, or simply wanted to know more about boobs, bottles, and babies, this book is a magnificent resource. Not for the faint hearted, but wonderful for the woman who needs some rousing out of her rut!
